Robert Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" (an interesting book made into a shitty movie most memorable for a coed shower scene with Denise Richards), was at it's heart a treatise on citizenship, a citizen's rights and responsibilities. Heinlein posited a society in which no one qualifies as a voting citizen unless he/she performs a term of service to the national government, be it in the military, science, teaching, or if the person is not capable of such, whatever form of manual or other labor they are competent to offer. There is no punishment or stigma for not being a voting citizen, you live as you wish, you simply are not able to vote in elections. Those who have proved their support of civil society by sweat equity of whatever sort are deemed to be invested enough to earn having their voices heard. They have proved their willingness to do the right thing for their government, and are credited with being a serious person who has its best interests in mind

I agree that offering the franchise to those who are in prison is bad policy. OTOH, I think that once a convict has served his term he should be allowed to vote. Voting in a democracy should only be removed from a person for the most serious of offenses.

Toddlers alone, defending themselves in court. How did we allow ourselves to sink so low?

Fuck this guy, and this mindset.

    "But when the taxman
    Comes to the door
Lord, the house look a like a rummage sale, yeah"

Ms. Richards isn't in that scene. It's Dina Meyer. Who is attractive enough in her own right.

He has to go ask Manafort, the guy who bumfoozled Fuckboy into picking him as Veep.

Why was it so important to Manafort (or his masters) to install Pence as VP?

Well, a B-52 flying at about 500 feet over downtown Albany or Sacramento could change that whole equation in a big hurry.

Shrug. I really liked the book, and Verhoeven butchered it beyond all recognition. It's been many years since I watched it.

    Thanks for the correction.

Speaking of which, Pence never released his taxes either.
