One time I worked near Advertising. And, one time, for a special section, each ad rep was given a quota of selling at least one quarter-page ad. So this young guy, Derek, busted his ass, got lucky, then ran in and told his manager, "Hey, Alan, I just sold a two-page, double-truck electronics ad!" ... Alan, a burned-out guy who couldn't sell anything anymore, never looked up from his spreadsheet but said: "That's great. Can you sell two more?"

Derek never really gave a shit about his job after that. But I wonder if Alan now works in political fundraising.

Because "protecting our elections" is a vague, meaningless term.

And because gerrymandering, voter suppression, lost/missing/suddenly found ballots and all these shenanigans that WE engage in are a far greater threat to our "democracy" than anything a foreign nation will ever do.

And to fix these things would require looking in a mirror and coming to grips with the fact that we don't want to fix what we have broken.

Because the problem is never "us." It's always "them." Them being that evil nation or that evil opposition party.

Another nation messing with U.S. elections is an attack on the country. It is absolutely a completely different thing from the other issues you broke up, but of course, you'll say anything to defend your beloved mother Russia.

Ex cons should be able to vote. I’d guess the vast majority of Americans agree. We’re talking about people presently behind bars, aka removed from society. Advocating for their vote is a losing argument and only plays into the perception that Dems are simply trying to build their voting base

So, look. I know remaking the electoral system - in the broadest way possible - is a thing for Democrats in 2019. I get that. So is rethinking the constitution - the 13th amendment is one. It's part of what I think is a big re-education campaign - not unlike the one the Tea Party attempted to foist on American people, using Glenn Beck's history traveling tour as a means - of voters who generally can't be bothered to care about many of the right things.

I just don't agree with Sanders' position. And honestly I don't get it. I think on some level Sanders really believes, but others will use it cynically because they figure it endears them to millennial voters who like virtue-signalling their concern for prisoners between bouts of social media shaming the dude sitting behind them who likes the wrong music.

It's a losing position. The BTK guy, voting. I mean, good God.
