We saw Keelan Doss in person once at Davis against Idaho this fall and several times on TV. I really believe he's going to end up playing slot WR for some lucky team that takes a chance on a DII kid with size and great hands. (EDIT: Davis is FCS. I miss those games against Sonoma, Chico, Humboldt and San Francisco State.)

O' Brien went to more than one Pro Bowl and was a very decent starter for quite awhile. He was like the Miss Congeniality of the 19983 QBs. Not a bust, but not Hall guy either.

His career comps are Roman Gabriel, Jim Hart and John Hadl according to football reference. You have to be a somewhat decent quarterback to last long enough to lose 50 plus games as a starter (he also won 50 plus games).

It’s one of the fun things to speculate about, since so many blame the Jets for taking O’Brien instead of Marino. What if the Jets did take Marino and the Dolphins took O’Brien?

Considering how crappy the Jets’ offensive line was and how Marino couldn’t really move, he might have been a sitting duck and gotten hurt. Meanwhile, O’Brien would have had all day to throw to Clayton and Duper behind that Dolphins’ line.

I always thought the skills of Marino and O'Brien were a big part of the perceptions of the offensive lines for both teams.

O'Brien was a statue in the pocket and he often held the all too long, making the Jets' line look worse than it was.

I always thought those Miami offensive lines were a bit overrated. Marino wasn't mobile, but he could move around a little in the pocket to buy time, like Brady does, and his quick release often got him out of trouble.

This could be true as well.

I looked up the sack stats for both in Profootballredrence. O’Brien was sacked about 75 more times than Marino was (not counting his one year in Philly). Marino played eight extra seasons.

It might have been their ability, but the talent level also was a factor.

One thing is clear after the NFL Draft -- Bob Quinn thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. I hope he's right, because when the Lions feel that way, that's usually when they get in the most trouble.

I thought the Lion were always in trouble.

Panthers' draft picks from these schools:

    Mississippi
    Florida
    Alabama
    South Carolina
    Georgia

    Notice a pattern?

64 SEC players taken, 24 more than the next conference, the 13th year in a row the conference had more than any other.

    It just means more. ;)
