Female empowerment... same gender relationships... no black stereotypes... shit, a black man got the shield

Marvel is blasting through a lot of doors

Crap. I left Captain Marvel off my list. She and her role make zero sense if you haven't seen that.

I'd probably throw Ant Man and the Wasp in there. Or at last wikipedia it. Then again, they kinda go over the quantum realm in the beginning. So maybe not.

Thank you for pointing out what Sam said to Cap before the big arrival. I couldn't hear it clearly. That makes the scene even better.

The moment with the female heroes rallying around Captain Marvel seems like a nod to the relatively recent A-Force comic, which featured a team of all female heroes working together. Most of the members are different, but the concept was there.

Steve Rogers as an old man handing the shield to Sam Wilson was right out of the comics, though they eventually de-aged Rogers and he regained the role of Captain America.

Having Joe Russo play the role also was a way of highlighting his importance. I got that from the following article, which I had been avoiding reading until after I saw the movie for fear of spoilers.

The Russo Brothers Talk Marvel Studios' First Openly Gay Character

My point is that Marvel has been doing this in the comics for a while now, in the Ultimate line and then in the main Marvel Universe.

I agree. Most of that episode was just about relentless brutality. It was over an hour of a zombie apocalypse, with that one heroic moment at the end.

My girlfriend hadn't seen Captain Marvel, but she got the character's importance from the teaser at the end of the last Avengers, and just the fact that she got her own movie, haha. She was also able to follow most of this one, despite "only" having seen the Avengers main line and the Iron Man movies.

I think you could get by with just Infinity War, but you'd miss a lot.

One of the interesting things is that Captain Marvel is now pretty much the Superman of this particular universe. Going forward, it'll be interesting to see how they handle her.

    Agreed. She is seriously overpowered.

Wasn't it heavily implied in Deadpool 2 that Negasonic Teenage Warhead is gay? I know it's not Marvel Studios, but it's still a Marvel character in a Marvel-affiliated movie.

I didn’t realize that Captain Marvel’s Endgame stuff was shot before Larson shot the solo movie.
So it makes sense how they hedged their bets on having her more prominent in Endgame since they didn’t know how the solo movie would go over.
Had Endgame been shot after the movie blew up, I bet she would not have been out in the universe saving other planets.
