An extraordinary line in a NYT column. (A man wrote this.)

Opinion | Can We Please Relax About ‘Socialism’?

And I am painfully aware that the male Fox commentariat nurtures its sickly obsession with Ms. Ocasio-Cortez partly because they resent her cleverness, charisma and moral vitality, but mostly because they suspect that in high school she was one of those girls they had no hope of getting a date with (though, really, she comes across as someone who could look past a face of even the purest suet if she thought she glimpsed a healthy soul behind it).”

I feel for AOC. I do. She shouldn’t have to play some fantasy role in a liberal guy’s disdain for Fox News.

Oh, he’d whip Trump. That’s his calling card. That’s why it was all over his “I’m running” video.

I don’t think he can win a primary game. I don’t. It’s gonna take a Michelle Obama endorsement - since Biden has effectively sidelined her husband — and I don’t think she’ll pick any one candidate in the primaries.

The Democrats May convince themselves that a picnic table can beat Trump, and pursue the far left candidate as a result.

Do you really think this makes the list of the top 10,000 things AOC has been called in the past year?

She isn’t called anything here. She’s held up as the cool, purest-of-heart person who wouldn’t take a date from hypothetical high school Sean Hannity. Andie from Pretty In Pink, I suppose. With Fox News as James Spader.

I agree. That is why it does not make the list of the top 10,000 insults. But why do you pity someone who is represented as a cool, pure of heart person? Surely you do not pity her for not wanting to date a high school version of Sean Hannity.

IMO, it's not fun to be used as a sex object in a man's grudge match against other men. But maybe she doesn’t mind. I can’t honestly know.

It's also a bit of fat shaming, but that's not new among liberals.

Maybe my ideas of attractiveness are for shit, but the only reason that sex object stuff comes up with her is that she's 29 years old. ... and she's outspoken and has put herself into a position of influence in a world populated by 40 and 50 year olds, many men.

I definitely don't see the cool, beautiful girl. I remember those girls. I look at her and see someone with the sensibilities of a know-it-all freshman at a liberal arts college. Way more annoying than cool. Were a lot of guys really pining to date that girl?
