Sabathia got a nice ovation from the fans in Arizona as he tipped his cap after striking out hitter No. 3,000. Pretty cool moment and a good job the DBacks' fans.

I got an email from the Yankees today giving out 3000 pairs of tickets to celebrate. Picked up one of them. Yay CC.

Speaking of the Yankees, they're the only team that still hasn't won a game against a team with a winning percentage over .500. Just odd and jumps out at you when you're checking the standings. I'd never seen MLB list that breakdown on its standings.

Speaking of Jeffrey Leonard, I'm pretty sure he was the first baseball player I ever saw who wore his hat with a flat brim. I could be wrong, but he was doing that years before it became popular with the young folks. Not sure what moron helped popularize the sideways cock of the hat. Probably some asshole who walks around with only one lens in his eyeglasses.

The Mariners are 0-9 against above-.500 teams, which lends credence to the idea that their record is a bit skewed by their schedule. Regression to the mean and all that.

Corey Kluber has a fractured pitching elbow after getting hit with a comebacker. He's gonna be out quite a while.

Go to the video tab and watch Boone get run.
This is awesome, and also why if I'm a producer, I'm giving MLB whatever they want to have their umpires miked up.
Boone is all cool and calm, even when Emmel dumped him. All of a sudden, Emmel said something, and Boone goes a little crazy.

I was listening to a national sports talk show driving tonight and the two hosts were talking about baseball and why analytics are stupid, the shift is stupid etc. the main reason they gave was that the A's are the leading team in analytics and they don't win and don't draw well - so analytics are stupid.
I'm not the biggest baseball fan in the world - and I admit that reading Verducci's story about tech in baseball was as illuminating as it was disheartening - but it did make me think.
Outside of MLB.com or the network, who is the leading national voice for talking about baseball? Most of the sports talk hosts know football and hoops, but really fall short when talking about baseball. Is the tech revolution, the analytics taking the "fun" out of the game? I understand it makes the game more efficient - but now its like math vs. math. I wonder if it's become a sport difficult to talk about if you don't understand the language - with so much jargon its become impenetrable to the average fan.
