None of those 64 will be champions of life, I bet.

It was probably a combination of the two, but man, Marino was tough to sack. People think of his lack of mobility and underestimate just how much he did to keep himself off the turf. His release was insanely quick and he knew how to shift in the pocket to avoid the rush. He had great instincts in the pocket. As a Pittsburgh guy, I think of him as the anti Kordell Stewart. Stewart was a fantastic athlete with terrible instincts in the pocket. O'Brien had the same problem, but without the athleticism.

But next they'll start drafting tackles, which should be encouraging.

O'Brien was the AFC Player of the Year in 1985 or 1986...Really anyone who thinks he was a bust is an idiot and it's not even worth arguing over. Six QBs were taken, three became Hall of Famers, one actually won a Super Bowl (two of them), O'Brien wasn't one of the three but he wasn't Todd Blackledge either, who was selected seven picks ahead of Jim Kelly and 20 picks ahead of Marino.

I agree with the second part, but are sure about the first?

It was 1985. Not bad for a guy who was sacked 62 times that season.

I looked it up too. On UC Davis’ site, they have him getting the award from the Washington D.C Touchdown Club. Was that the award giver back then?

Speaking of QBs, it seems that every team in the NFL has at least a QB of the foreseeable future post-draft. Don't know what that means to the four QBs expected to be taken in round 1 next year. Denver maybe? Cincy? Don't all other teams have a QB either with multple years under contract?

That can change quickly enough. The Cardinals proved that, though certainly it was an odd situation to move on from Rosen so quickly.

Teams whose QBs may be at or near their expiration dates come next April would likely also include Detroit, Tampa and Tennessee. Also Baltimore if the Jackson experiment blows up.
