They should shut the fuck up and realize how lucky they were to get that call.

Admit that I have not played game; watching a team like Sharks v say Avs: looks like Avs carry puck better and have sharper possessions and Sharks try a lot of long passes and dump and chase relying on forecheck. But forecheck can cover up if done well. Is that an accurate read?

A Canadian will give you his perspective....Colorado plays an uptempo game on offence and like making plays over the blue line for the most part. They will dump and chase to keep opponents D men honest. They have fast forwards so can play it both ways, their forecheck is good. San Jose plays it much the same way, making plays. Colorado plays big, use the body effectively and are strong on their skates. Dump and chase is a tool to use but it takes a lot of work to regain the possession of the puck. The key is banging the defencemen as they attempt to play the puck, it takes a toll. So really it’s a chess game and weaknesses get exposed in a flash because of the speed of the game and the body contact. That’s why on paper, there were lots of upsets. My take is there was some poor coaching and game prep against some teams who were playing some damn good hockey. I live in Calgary, have Flames tickets and knew they weren’t in top form. Realistically should have been a 4 game blow out.

So with a Carolina-Columbus series looming, would that be the first time two wild-card teams meet in a conference final?

In the last five minutes of the third period, protecting a one goal lead, Carolina may have played the grittiest and smartest hockey you'll ever see. Now up 3 games to nil over the Islanders.

Someone with more hockey knowledge than me please correct me but 2013-14 was the first time they seeded "wildcard" teams. Before then it was division champs and a bunch of qualifiers so we've only had four (five?) opportunities for two wildcard teams to meet up and it hasn't happened yet.

As a Charlotte native (and a Penguins fan), it’s hard for me to like anything that comes out of the Triangle, but these Hurricanes are fun to watch. It’s also a plus that they beat the Caps. After they finish off Trotz, I’ll re-evaluate my hatred of all things Raleigh.

As a native - and someone who has spent significant time living in other spots around the country and even Southeast Asia for a few years - I've concluded that the Charlotte-Raleigh thing is one of the most parochial, idiotic issues I've run across.

There are many more things worth dissection and hand-wringing.

Yeah, you’re probably right, but the barbecue sucks in Raleigh.
