Anyone watching "Chernobyl" on HBO and listening to the podcast? It's great, but it's so hard not to see certain parallels to what's happening in our country right now. There's the spread of disinformation and lies, the dismissal of scientists and experts ("I prefer my opinion to yours," a bureaucrat says to a nuclear physicist), the idea that nothing has gone wrong yet no one can know what's happened (sound familiar, Mueller Report?), and, finally, the flunkies who are put in charge of things they have no business running.

The director said this project began before 2016, but even he sees how it can be an allegory to Trumpism and what the GOP is doing here. The irony, of course, is that it's usually the Dems and the left who are accused of being Communist and Socialist and equating their ideas to what the Soviets were doing back then.

Anyway, the miniseries is great, and the podcast is really interesting. I was 14 years old when Chernobyl happened. I remember it being a thing, a bad thing, but I knew very little about how horrible the situation one — both the actual accident and the way the Soviets handled it afterwards.
