It would arguably be more respectable if economics don't make a difference. At least then one could say that those in favor of the bill *truly* believe what they say they believe.

"Yeah, I know all life is precious and abortion is a sin in the face of God, creator of heaven and Earth but, you see...Disney...teevee shows...our money..." ain't a good look.

Then again, there's probably some rationale in the Osteen-esque prosperity gospel that allows for such provisions.
