This will play out smoothly.

 

Every car dealer in the USA just shit a brick. After the Dow drops about 1000 in the first hour tomorrow, I bet this will be another Trump "never mind, they called me and told me they gave in."

 

As I suspected, fart boy just wanted to pick a fight and doesn't really have anything of value to say.

Public opinion isn't the real issue here. The real issue is which party controls the Senate. Sure, exposing President Trump even more has some value, but do you really think there is any chance he would be convicted? Do you really think any of the people who want him out of office will be happy with any outcome short of a resignation or a conviction, neither of which have much chance of happening? What is the best-case scenario? Drag the thing out into campaign in 2020? Impeachment is likely to put the focus of Democrats on some fight they won't win instead of putting it on finding the best possible candidate and giving them the support they need to win the next election. More likely, the thing ends before the election and President Trump gets another victory lap to energize what is left of his base.

I can certainly understand and respect opposing views on this. I just don't trust the Republicans in Congress to do anything but stand by President Trump. Are you telling me there isn't evidence to support that point of view?

Hold the hearings. Present the evidence. Pound it into their heads a drop at a time, water torture style. Have Mueller come in and read his report out loud in his own words, and then interpret them into simple declarative sentences without the double negatives. Do this alongside the continuing flow of testimony and evidence from the various ongoing investigations. This is a winnable case, but if the Dems won't bet on the American people, they can't win.

 

I can't wait until Trump tries this out to see how it works for him.

My impression is that these congresspeople at least want to go on the historical record as being dramatically opposed to what's happening.
Unlike you, I am willing to admit I don't know what the fucking solution is.
The framers never envisioned such a creature holding high office, nor a Senate that acts like the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.
But I know the answer is not to tweet about how awful a person he is while doing nothing, or to yuk it up and eat fried chicken in chamber.
I've watched that movie for two damn years.
