Tell me Democrats didn't pin their hopes on this report. You can't. It'd be a lie if you did.

 

Whatever the party's hopes for the report were, those hopes played no role in its victories in 2018. The issue now, obviously, is that while the report provides ample grounds for an impeachment inquiry and subsequent vote, there currently are not 218 votes for that motion within the House Democratic caucus, because an unknown number of members are afraid, God knows why, it'd hurt their chances for re-election next year. THAT, not disappointment with the report's contents, is the reason for the current dithering. Pelosi is taking the heat herself to keep anyone from finding out whose those Dems are, because they would be certainly doomed if their identities became known to Democratic voters, not to mention donors.

 

The Dems did hope, because they lack courage to do it themselves. And they lack a cohesive base. African Americans have almost completely different policy objectives from the LGBQT and white educated women. Immigration is a hypothetical issue that blacks, gays and whites will trade because they have no personal involvement. The right wing is as homogenous as America gets, white Christian, under educated and underachieving. Except the really rich white folks who are in it for the Money. They don’t care about anyone or anything but their own self satisfaction and imposing their religious beliefs on others
