    Then Obama oversaw concentration camps.

And that's not "whataboutism." That's reckoning with the use of words and how it might rewrite history.

    Not necessarily.

But I'd agree her use of the term raises some interesting questions about language, and about who gets to be in charge of defining reality.

I don't think people have to have died for it to be a concentration camp. If we're talking factual definitions here.

Mind you, each death is just awful. Awful! I'm not absolving the treatment of people there. I'm saying to call it concentration camp gets us no closer to anything other than the vortex of AOC's rhetoric. The "concentration camp" debate isn't about the detention centers. It's about her, and her willingness to go further left of everyone else in an effort to say she's going to be on the right side of history. I think almost all of what she does is a tactic. Set the debate over there - and use social media predisposed to her worldview - and pull folks to the left in an effort to reset the center.

After three decades of shifting the Overton window right, Alma now doesn't like attempts to shift it left. Quelle surprise.

The center in the age of Trump and neo-Nazis being "very fine people" could use some resetting.

Honestly? I don't think it does. As a thought exercise, smart people like you can have that conversation, but that conversation isn't for you or even for the migrants.

I think it creates discussion about her - which is more or less how she and her team wants it - in advance to next week's debates. Now, the immigration questions may very well get reframed as a concentration camp discussion.

They're death camps, but not mass death camps.
    Yet.
Very fine people are working on it.
