Are you kidding? Republicans will love Iraq II: Breakin’ Boogaloo. They’ll get to shriek about how you’re with us or you’re against us, indulge in their fascist fantasies about how any criticism of the war, including not wearing a flag pin, means you hate Americuh, munch on more Freedum Fries and, when reminded of Iraq I, either say they’re not going to talk about the past, or, more likely, say we never even went to war in Iraq, the libruhl media just lied about ever being a war, and any facts proving there was, in fact, a war just means you’re a triggered snowflake libruhl who needs a safe space. Oh, and the chickenshit media will jump for joy like little kids because they’ll be embedded with the troops, get to go cover a war like it’s the Olympics and play their usual role as stenographers.

Does that about sum it up?

On some level, I'm just not sure it'd work.

Granting them full citizenship will only encourage millions more to come - it doesn't matter what you tell aspiring immigrants, they're told, frankly begged not to come, and they do now anyway, and blanket amnesty would likely trigger a flood - and I'm doubtful it'd play out well for the folks already here. Their employment can sometimes depend on the exploitation that comes because they're illegal; how does the "deal" work when they're not? Will they adding to the economy when they have full access to all social services that some currently eschew because of their status?

And there's of course the argument that working a job for poor wages at the bottom of economy shouldn't be how we decide who gets to be an American. It seems reductive, and the response of millions of Americans who (rightly or wrongly) feel ignored by the upper classes to blanket amnesty...well, we just don't know what'd happen.

Not sure how many folks this affects numerically, but I wouldn't generally grant amnesty to overstayed visas. I've met my share of college graduates who got a job and liked it and just didn't want to go home.

How do you square that view with your Christianity? These people came here for a better life, are willing to do backbreaking labor, and you don't think that's enough?

True, but instigating a war against Iran undermines some important aspects of his administration that his supporters do like.

For instance, whether he had a damn thing to do with it or not, ISIS, as a territory-holding entity, was destroyed under his watch after Obama struggled. That's a mark in his favor almost no matter where you are on the political spectrum, and getting into a war with Iran, to me, undoes some of the goodwill coming from that particular Middle East success.

Also, I think a good portion of the far-right wing of the GOP views Iraq as a mistake and is non-interventionist. Ignore the hypocrisy about how they felt about Iraq in 2003, but I think there would be some pushback from his own party.

Excellent points. I don’t think his base is smart enough to appreciate them, however. All they want is to fight and kill a bunch of Muslims. And to push back on those who criticize their savior.
