Harris spent a lot of last night couching things in personal stories. That, to me, is identity politics. Could be a lot of things, really. Biden does it, too. Leans on it hard, frankly. Always has.

With Harris, it could get tricky because she's had a terrific, upwardly-ascendant career in government, specifically as a prosecutor. Her teen years were spent in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods of Canada and she's been a success, well, pretty much all her life. That doesn't mean she didn't struggle - we all do, certainly she's faced racism - but when you dig into her personal story, you're more likely to be impressed by it (for some, jealous of it) than see a lot of obvious financial hardships in it.
