His supporters don’t care about the truth, they care about the claim. And the places where they go for news generally prefer the lie.

Think about the claim that Obama wanted to visit Kim in North Korea but was refused. Utterly false and any president could have visited if they wanted to, but his supporters prefer the idea that Trump is getting something which Obama couldn’t. They couldn’t care less about the message which it is sending or our standing in the world. It’s just that their ability to say Trump 1, Obama 0.

On the other hand, it's hard to have a good meeting when you walk in there and say, "OK, now here's what YOU need to do, what YOU need to change. Because your interests do not matter."
