Jesus this lady on CNN from the weather center is a piece of work. She points to a map that extended from Ridgecrest to Bishop or further north and said it was 25 miles away. Try adding 100 to that number. And she said state route 78 (it's 178) had a rock slide that is blocking access to the area and you should avoid heading to the region. She was pointing to the area between Ridgecrest and Trona which is not the main access in. Now it could be the road connecting Bakersfield and Ridgecrest which would be a big deal. But that dumbass would believe you if you said Tahoe was 15 minutes away. Just leave it to Dr Jones. Sorry rant over.

This is what teh Twitterez is for. (Thead)

And from what I"ve heard, Trona is not a place you want to go to when the roads are clear.

Trona is interesting - has the Trona Pinnacles, which have shown up in movies.

Trona is ... Trona. You can smell it coming but it also had the only dirt hs football field in the lower 48.

It was a badge of honor working at the San Bernardino paper to cover a game in Trona because of its location.

The CIF long ago said -- I don't know if it's still the case -- the high school could not host playoff football games there because they play on a sand field. They can't grow grass there because of the high alkaline content in the soil.

A former CIF commissioner, or might have been an assistant, said in the late 1980s or early 1990s of Trona: "It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from there."

My sister and I pulled up the local ABC feed last night and they had someone on the air clearly saying that people were getting out of Trona after the quake because power had been cut, etc.

After Thursday's quake, you would think your local dumbass anchors would be up to speed on the Ridgecrest/China Lake/Trona area.

But the screwball said twice, "They're leaving Corona?" which is closer to L.A. than Ridgecrest.

Lucy Jones is a steely-eyed missileman, to use a different frame of reference. Geez. Please tell me most of those questions are coming from national talking heads rather than locals who should know the geography and the geology of the area they're covering. God help us if this is what a college degree in broadcasting/mass communications is worth in 2019. And yes, even the weekenders at an O&O (owned and operated by the network) ought to be brighter than this. Although CNN has put some real jokers on the air, including when a tornado hit their own damn building.

A school at my last stop had an eight-man game there OOC. The soil is so bad, they can't grow grass, so they played on an all-dirt field.

EDIT: I see I d_b'ed Mile High slightly.
