More retailers should do that, to show the rubes the tariffs are coming out of their pockets.

But would the rubes even believe that? I could see them being all, "These America-hating motherfuckers are making that up to get more money out of us good MAGA-loving patriots!"

It wasn't even a significant amount. It was something like $3.17 on a total order of $60-something. But it definitely caught my eye.

I disagree that it's much ado about nothing, but I share your curiosity about whether and why previous governors signed the thing. The Tennessean story suggests that every governor has signed, but it doesn't specifically say that all have done so. The argument that says, "Well, governors in many states have let these things go without signing them" is irrelevant. Other states don't dictate what Lee's legislative klan in Tennessee might do to him.
And it's reasonable to wonder why the issue is getting more attention now. The answer is that for the first time in the TV/internet era, we have an overt bigot in the White House. (Johnson's most vile thoughts remained out of the public domain until his secret Oval Office tapes were released years after his death.)
The larger concern is that when pressed on whether he thinks the law is just, Lee gutlessly evaded the question. He refused to say he'll push for the repeal of the law in future legislative sessions. Certainly can't afford to hack off his Trumpist base. That speaks volumes.

Trump claims the economy is “the best it has ever been;” that’s inaccurate. The economy is growing at roughly 3.2 percent, but in the 1990’s the economy grew at over 4 percent for four straight years. What jumps out from the current economic situation is the fact that Trump has broken his pre-election promises to American workers. Writing in Common Dreams economist Robert Reich detailed “the 7 Biggest Failures of Trumponomics”: “[Trump] promised to boost the wages of American workers, including a $4000 pay raise for the average American family. Instead, wages for most American have been flat, adjusted for inflation… over the same period, corporate profits have soared and the rich have become far richer.” (Reich noted that Trump promised a tax-cut for middle class families but instead this tax-cut disproportionately benefited the rich.) Many observers are concerned about Trump’s trade policies. Robert Reich noted: “Trump promised to bring down America’s trade deficit ‘as fast as possible.’ Instead the trade deficit has hit an all-time high.” Reich continued: “Trump’s trade wars have hammered rural America. Farm incomes are down $12bn in the first quarter of this year, according to the Department of Agriculture. Farm bankruptcies are at near record levels.”

I saw reporting around the midterms that found the economy historically is not a deciding issue for voters.

As soon as somebody tells Trump that he got 78% of the vote in the parish in which Barry just made landfall, he'll offer thoughts and prayers.
