Stroman will tear an ACL getting off the plane tomorrow. That's so Mets.

I keep wondering why the Mets make this deal, and all I can come up with is, there's reasons why they're the Mets.

Because it’s working out so well for the Pirates?

There is something to the idea of just acquiring assets at cheap prices if you're a big market team, even if you're not ready to compete immediately, because the cash advantage means you're only ever a couple of moves away. Butttt, the Mets haven't really shown a willingness to spend enough lately, and they're also talking about trading off Thor and/or Wheeler. (And, I'm not sure if the price was really that cheap, since Anthony Kay's had a pretty good year in AA so far.)

They should have done this in the first place, splitting the difference between the two deadlines when they cut back to one.

    It seems so obvious.

Mike Trout is currently tied for 91st in career WAR. He is not yet eligible for the Hall of Fame.

Why not make the deal if you're the Mers? Stroman is good and they traded garbage for him.

I kinda like the Mets saying "Fuck you" to the rest of the SP buyers.

Kay isn't bad - lefty, 1.49 ERA in 66 IP in AA this year, with 70 Ks. He's struggled in AAA - 6.61 ERA in seven games - but Stroman is only under Met control for two months this year and next year. Free agent in 2021. If they loved Stroman, you can make the argument that you might as well keep Kay, because you probably aren't a serious playoff contender in 2019 and 2020, and just sign Stroman as a FA.
