As far as gun laws are concerned, the other board is again using Chicago as an example of why they don't work. This seems to be the auto response every time there is a mass shooting. Obviously bad people can get guns from other areas regardless of local laws. But has anyone ever done a study to determine the number of accidental shootings and suicide by gun in areas with strict laws? What are the numbers in comparable "good neighborhoods"? Mass shootings suck bad but so do accidental shootings and suicides. Every study shows that access to more lethal means, guns, lead to more successful suicides. Doesn't this mean anything? Shouldn't this also be important to everyone across the aisles of Washington?

I would say there is a 100% chance he thinks Sherrod Brown is a black guy.

Hey, I know what I'll do, I'll play a losing hand twice, only this time say there's bad people on both sides instead of very fine people. Nobody will know the difference!!!

I'd thought you had me on ignore, mon ami.
Glad to see you haven't, as I was always on your side (I just didn't care for Obama).
There are stories about his drug abuse going back to the '70s. I just don't think he would be able to perform (whatever it is he does) while using.
He doesn't seem to be high-functioning at anything, much less being a high-functioning addict.

They are impossible to deal with, like Internet trolls. The problem is not in the response to them; it is in that they exist in the first place. But when someone starts yelling in a public meeting, it's kind of impossible not to react. Laughing at them is probably the best you can do. They're too dumb to know shame, but what else is there?

The other board is not a place for good thoughts about anything. It's Breitbart sprinkled with extremely detailed accounts of workout regimens and youth baseball, which certain people seem to post constantly despite zero response from anybody else. Until @maumann's excellent series on incarceration, I assumed it's what actual jail is like: delusions of grandeur despite the very obvious counterargument presented by the surroundings.

I was talking to my dad about the sorry condition of local roads, and then out of the blue, “Boy, they sure are shooting each other in Chicago.” Geee, I wonder where he heard that talking point. I shut it down in a hurry.

I learned a new word today: cryptid.

I'm gonna have to figure out how to drop that in casual conversations.
