This will probably be couched in terms of a story that Fatboy remembers "in the good old days when America was truly great, we could sit around and tell funny n***er jokes all the time, and now because of political correctness, the only people who can tell n***er jokes are thug rappers and n***ers like Obama, and anyway, Obama's only half -n****er himself!! I’m sure that the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald who was at the event loved this quote by Trump “Imagine they get in a plane with a half a tank of gas and fly into steel ships just for the love of their country!”

 

I’m afraid you’re spot on and Trump will win again. A terrible statement about this country.

 

While everyone does the Eeyore "Trump's gonna win, we're all doomed" thing, try to keep a few things in mind.

1) Trump defeated a candidate that nobody liked.
2) No one thought Trump had even a remote shot at winning, so a lot of people who would have voted Democrat didn't bother.
3) That win was very narrow.

The more important stuff...

4) This country is only 61% white. Even if half of all white people in the US are white supremacist assholes -- and I refuse to believe that -- it's only 30% of the population.
5) That other 39% that is Latino/Black/Asian isn't voting for a white supremacist.
6) Trump did polling in the battleground states and when he got the results he fired all the pollsters.
7) Trump got his ass kicked in the midterms. You can point all you want to a history of majority parties losing ground in the midterms, but some of it was savage. In Arizona -- traditionally so red that elections aren't really in play -- the Senate race was a Trump-loving fighter pilot versus a bisexual atheist Democrat woman, and the Democrat won.

I mean, I'm not going to say Trump can't win. I didn't think he could win the first time, so I'm not making that mistake twice. But seriously, let's not act like we're all doomed to eight years of Trump. We're not.

 

Trump beat a candidate who people actively loathed. Any other democrat probably would have won. Clinton hate paved the way for the barker at the Tenderloin strip joint to win.

 

The biggest advantage an incumbent has is they are a "known quantity" vs. and "unknown." I don't think Trump will get the benefit of the doubt this time around - he's likely to be even more crazy if he's reelected. Sane, Steady Leadership should be the Dems tagline for whomever wins the nomination.

 

^ The problem with No. 4 is that the 30% you mentioned will turn out 100% come hell or high water, so if a low percentage of the rest turns out, they win. That only needs to happen in 3 or 4 states, like in 2016. Hopefully this time the left gets energized enough. They ought to be.
