This is how entrenched and safe these cretins are: Steve King can address a crowd and dismiss and practically praise the merits of incest and rape without fear of reprisal or defeat because he plays the Trumpist Christian card at the same time. He said these things to justify laws that ban abortion even in cases of incest or rape. And he knows he will pay zero political price for them.

 

You know, more than about five years ago, no politician of any party would have let themselves get caught dead talking about any of this stuff.

 

First, the Steve King anecdote does not speak to the overall trend.

Second, the guy went from 61 percent of the vote in 2016 to 50 in 2018 and is likely to lose by 4-6 points in 2020.
