Besides that team, which MLB team has gone the longest without one? And, for bonus points, who threw it?

That is correct.

 

Right team, wrong guy. The Indians have the longest streak without one, with the last no-hitter being Len Barker's perfect game in May 1981. The Brewers are second, with Juan Nieves' no-hitter in April 1987.

 

I considered Barker's perfecto but thought it came before Eck's game.

 

One of the most famous players in MLB history was on six teams that lost in the World Series. Not sure if that has ever been matched. Who is/was he?

 

Will start with Jackie Robinson?

 

No. Jackie lost in 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953 and 1956. "Only" five. Pee Wee Reese lost six, all to the Yankees, but he is not the guy I am thinking of.

One caveat: The guy I'm thinking of was on a league-championship team, but did not appear in his final World Series. He is one of the most famous players in MLB history, who changed the way the game is played.

 

Willie Mays?

 

No. Only four WS for Willie. Won in 1954, lost in 1951, 1962 and 1973.

 

I’m curious about the “changed the way the game is played” part, since I don’t know that any one player ever really has.
