Week 1 NFL: The Chiefs march to the Super Bowl begins

  1. Moncrief is terrible. Wow .... How many drops did he have? Three?

Where was McDonald? Did they keep him in to block all night? He was never mentioned?
That was a bad game, but I can't say it was unexpected. It was NE. At Home. And Week 1. Fans would be naive to expect anything but an embarrassing performance.
Disappointed. But it's only one game.

    #Whatever.

    On to Seattle.

One of Brady's at Miami losses was to a Dolphins team that was like 1-12 at the time. But these Dolphins will be lucky to get to 1-anything.

I think everyone is more concerned than they would be for a "normal" week one game because if the Steelers make the playoffs, the road will probably go through New England. Or, Kansas City, and both teams looked pretty stellar yesterday. The Steelers didn't make the playoffs last year, and since then, they shed their best receiver, replaced him with a retread, and Big Ben got older. Their off-season moves seemed to be geared toward cutting down on the ability for backs and slot receivers to shred their linebackers in coverage, and the Pats did it at will last night. On the broadcast, Collinsworth said it'll take time for them to gel as a defensive unit, so I guess that's the only thing you can hang your hat on going forward.

How did the Pats get Collins back?

Seriously, it all ends when Brady retires, but, WTF. Really? Collins?

The thing is, smart players who leave or are forced out of the Pats because of Bill's reasons recognize that since it's all business with him, if he can use you again, he will without thinking about the past situation at all. It's all fair as long as the player can be as cold-blooded as Bill (Revis is a great example of that), but of course, the emotions needed to play pro ball cannot easily be switched off when the helmets are removed.

I was on an Acela where the wifi failed yesterday afternoon, so I didn't see any of the 1 p.m. games and Giants-Cowboys was already in garbage time (second half) when I got home. But I am struck by how many noncompetitive games there were. Dolphins-Ravens obvious example, but Giants-Cowboys, Pats-Steelers, Titans-Browns and Vikings-Falcons all either looked or seemed to be from the scoreboard to be over from the opening kickoff. And Lions-Cardinals would've made for two more such games if only they hadn't been playing each other. Week after week with 5-6 routs isn't gonna be ratings gold.
