I don't trust my government to do the correct thing. And neither, apparently, does anyone here, based on the 148,000 posts in this thread.

If the government happens to one day be led by President Gabbard, my position could change.

This really doesn't seem that difficult to grasp. People being gunned down in the streets and schools and concert venues and churches and bars and.....is not great for anyone. But I guess old Alma has a different view. Fucking laughable.

Yep, and I never trust it. I don't see why a company would want me or anyone to know they care about that unless what they really care about it:

    A. Making money off me knowing they care
    B. Wanting something else, like, say, Google and Facebook, and hoping easy-to-inhabit millennial-approved political positions help them skate right through.

I came up in journalism. I'm a skeptic. I'm not much of a believer in anything corporations say or do for reasons extracurricular to the business at hand. Because I'm a Christian, I'm not big on calling attention to charity or self-promotion, either. Whenever an athlete would have some fundraiser for a charity, I'd be loathe cover it, because we couldn't cover all of them and I wasn't all that interested in promoting one charity over another. I just don't like leveraging public sentiment.

An example: There's a couple auto shops where I live that try to play on the Christian thing, putting the Jesus fish in their logo and all that shit. They're also expensive. The guy I go to isn't. He gets my business because he does good work. I don't know what he believes.

    Or C ...

And while you may not care about the values of the companies behind products you buy, that trend is against you. We're seeing consumers across all the demographics making decisions based on brand values - whether it's supporting the troops or trying to save the environment or supporting local youth sports.

    BTExpress-
Gabbard was a Bannon fave and was endorsed by the Neo-Nazi site Daily Stormer.
Not one of Trump's lotus-eaters but a pile of garbage all the same.

My skepticism of corporations is a contributing factor in my tendency to be brand loyal. Once I’ve done the research into a product or had successful experiences using a product, I tend to buy or use it again.

But part of what attracts me to a product or retains my loyalty is the effect that company has on the world by their business practices, marketing and political or charitable involvement. If all other factors are equal, I will buy from a source that makes an effort to promote a cleaner, safer world.

I don’t want to put my few pennies in the hands of someone who will spend them to support something I oppose.

They would have taken out two of them by a "plausible mishap," strange accidents, sudden medical conditions etc etc. But at least one would be a no-doubt-about-it, you-fucked-with-the-wrong-people special -- found face down in the river with three bullets in their head.

Yes, it's alarming how easily people are duped that way.
