This is 100% me and what I did in 2016. I can assure everyone right now that Trump is at least 11-0 up in the EC.

This is complete bullshit. University of California system was basically free until the '60s. I guess all those Berkeley Nobel Prizewinners got shitty educations. There are kids at Harvard, Yale and Princeton right now who're basically on free rides because of their families' economic situations. Does that devalue what they're learning? Public universities and colleges used to be a LOT cheaper than they are today. In truth, we could reduce college costs by a great deal without making them "free," simply less onerous, if we were as a society as willing to fund higher education as a public good as we used to be.

Well I'm from Massachusetts, so make it an 11-11 tie.

    Azrael-
Due respect - why should I help pay for Lori Laughlin's cosseted kid to go to Stanford for free?
    I'll hang up and listen.

You pay for her kid to go to high school, why not college?

    Stanford's private.

    I said 'land grant.'

If folks make the decision to apply to an Ivy or a private school, let them do so.

But state university systems - and community colleges and vo-techs - should be free. As they already are in places like New York State.

Giuliani Divorce: It’s Ugly, It’s Operatic. What Did You Expect?

In court, Mrs. Giuliani has claimed that her husband spent $286,532 since their divorce commenced on a woman named Maria Rose Ryan, the chief executive officer of a small New Hampshire hospital, with whom he has traveled abroad.

Any suggestion that Mr. Giuliani and Ms. Ryan were having an affair would be categorically false, according to Ms. Ryan’s daughter, Vanessa Ryan, who is Mr. Giuliani’s personal assistant.

She said her mother sometimes serves as a consultant for Mr. Giuliani. Mr. Giuliani had brought her in, the daughter said, to close some deals because “she can talk a bum into buying a ham sandwich, she’s a great businesswoman.”

    1. College tuition skyrocketed because loans got guaranteed by the federal government. You know what happened? College started building suite dorms and hiring mid-level administrative suits to cater to all the "lifestyle" needs of students - you know, the extracurricular stuff beyond the actual education.

    2. Yes, the kids who don't belong at Harvard, et al, but are there because of their family money/economic connections, do, indeed, devalue the place.

    3. I have zero faith - none, zip, zero, nada - in America to do free college right. It will not go well.

Add: I did miss the stanford part. But overall, about the concept of free college, the question remains.
The line we've chosen to draw about where education is free and where it isn't is fairly arbitrary. Why is it the current line the appropriate line is a question worth addressing.

Yep. No embedded tweets, no embedded Facebook posts, just lots of nags to disable my tracking protection (nope, I will not do that).

Y’all need to either learn how to screenshot or find better content.

Actually, this happened when our society decided literally everyone needed to go to college and get “a career job” instead of going to things like trade schools.

Sometimes I think I should’ve been a welder or electrician.
