Thanks for clarifying. Villanueva was abundantly clear that he didn't support the kneeling gesture, but he did support others' right to do so. I think he walked back his opposition to his gesture quite a bit by claiming it was a mistake, but I get that he was in a weird position and didn't totally know how to handle the attention.

Anti-Kaep people will always point to Villanueva as their idol, but I don't view him as powerful in the debate one way or the other. He could have staked himself to one side or the other, but he chose not to do so, and I don't begrudge him that decision.

Oh, I know Villanueva didn't have quite as much of an issue as some of the people who tried to make him a symbol, but I thought it would work for a joke, at least among the Steelers fans here.
