Things you strongly dislike, but which most guys/girls like

It's a Southern California thing that gets my goad everytime I hear it in NorCal. Conversely, I instantly know who is from the LA area when they make that mistake.

 

Every now and then you hear those slipped into traffic reports in the Bay area. Ever want to reach through the speaker and slap someone silly?

 

Yes. Very yes.

 

Not sure if this makes it better or worse. It's a colloquialism with some logical roots.

Why Do Southern Californians Say “The” Before Freeway Numbers?

Ah yes, the 405 the 605 the 91 and the 710 (which was the 7 when I was a kid in the LBC) and the 118 and the Hollywood Freeway and the 105 and the 210.

"Pete Ellis Dodge, Long Beach Freeway, Firestone exit, South Gate."

And don't forget to get off at Slauson and cut off your slauson.

 

Exactly.

It's not as rare in the east as you think.

The BQE, the FDR, the West Side Highway, the Cross Bronx Expressway, etc., ad inf., plus basically every Parkway.

 

The Ike, the Edens, the Kennedy, the Dan Ryan, etc.

Although, the article applies to "the" and numbers. No one calls it "the 94" or "the 55."

 

I've never seen a frame of GoT and don't give two squirts of piss about it either.

 

I've seen this and it actually helped me understand why they all say the (freeway number). It still bugs me, for whatever reason, when they do it.

 

The small guy went to college here and gave what they consider the best commencement speech of the last 15-20 years.

 

I know him in some regard.
He went to my high school.
Or, should I say, I went to his.
