I haven’t/won’t read the story but seems to me if the librarian is smart enough to earn a PhD she should be smart enough to know there is no economic future in rural America and she should get the hell out while she still has marketable skills.

Ed Henry wears kneepads around Trump. And he puts 'em to bad use. What a freakin' joke.

Mueller had everything needed to prove crimes BARD.
As he stated, he was not allowed to charge Fatfuck with any of those crimes, regardless of the volume or certainty of evidence.

It's like his awfulness is aimed at covering up his incompetence.

But I agree the piece would have benefited from a boilerplate head librarian job description.

That said, the brain drain out of rural America continues, and attitudes like those displayed in the story are part of the reason why. The collapse of "real America" is largely a matter of self-fulfillment. The specific irony here being that no one needs a wired, modern, broadband library more than these small towns.

NB: Plenty of good jobs a few hours up the road in Bentonville / Rogers / Springdale.

As part of the green card process, I had to show documentation (financial statements, W-2s, etc.) to prove that my wife would not be a drain on the state. It's why I sweated my company's 2009 layoffs more than any subsequent ones.

Today is the two-year anniversary of a defining moment of Trumpism.

    "The Calm Before the Storm."

What did it mean? You'll see.

It wasn’t explicit but it was there.

“The library has historically provided a variety of services for this community. It has offered summer reading camps for children and services like high-speed internet, sewing classes and academic help.”

Also, they were combining two jobs into one.

“The library board wanted to increase the pay it could offer a new head librarian, who would be combining her new job with an older one, to $25 an hour.”

Perhaps the years of downsizing and doing more with less in the newspaper world has affected everybody’s thinking. But normally if you dump added responsibility and work on a person, you give them a raise. Given the cost of benefits, the library was likely still coming out ahead giving one person that salary than two people $12 an hour.
