There's a very outside chance of Romney doing the right thing and at least standing up for his country, or party. Even if the presidency is out of his reach (and who really knows?), a stand here could cement a legacy he must crave.

 

To be fair, being deployed to 150 countries does not mean our troops are engaged in combat in 150 countries. We've had soldiers deployed to Cuba for damn near 60 years. Maintaining bases worldwide is hardly something I'd label "disturbing."

 

NATO and allies won't get as much intel on Russia. That's the point. He's an asset. Pure and simple.

If the Senate rediscovers their spines and decides to protect the Kurds from Erdogan, the Turks may move into the Russian circle of influence. If Putin gains enough influence to see the U.S. pushed out of Turkey and the Russians take over Incirlik AFB, well... that would be nearly as big as subverting an American President.
