I bet your favorite essay is Jonathan Edwards's "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."

I make a point of missing torture porn like 'Saw.'

And if you haven't seen that on the big screen, you're missing a lot.

The first was good, but obviously gratuitous. The rest were trash.

But I'll watch a trashy horror movie anytime.

Agreed. The first really was well done. Unfortunately, it spawned an entire genre focused on thinking of new, disgusting ways to torture, dismember and kill people. I'm not squeamish, but most of the rest of those types of movies are rather boring. Exceptions that I've seen include Hostel and I Spit on Your Grave.

I want to reply with the movie he's talking about but I get the sinking feeling this is a joke.

Personally, Thumbtanic was probably all I needed to see of Titanic.

Any Tarantino film except for Jackie Brown, and those movies were not missed by accident.

Only QT films I have seen are Inglorious Basterds, Hateful Eight, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Jackie Brown was an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard novel so there was no way he could screw it up - and he didn't at all. It was superb.
I want to give Once Upon a Time in Hollywood a try.
