    Az-
    no problem.
Jefferson is such a fucking marvel you can use him as a sort of Lincoln Log connector piece for anything.
Jefferson and Islam, Jefferson and gardening, Jefferson and the French Revolution, on down the line.
We are going to start seeing books about the Framers + impeachment.
We seem to go through a Founders chic every 20 years in this country.

John Bolton is not the hero of this movie. He was pissy because things did not play out the way he wanted them to, that I can believe. What I don't believe is that he suddenly grew a conscience while working for the Trump administration. It is possible, I suppose, that he caught them doing something so anti-American that even he couldn't stomach it.

For all his faults and failures, Bolton is a Yale-educated lawyer and a true creature of Washington, and not to be jerked around by clowns like he's dumb-ass Jared.
Some people you don't fuck with - even the Trumps ought to have learned this somewhere along the road.

It's problematic, isn't it? Belief vs governance.

Even in 2019. A venue turned down an interracial wedding, citing "Christian belief." It’s far from the first to do so.

But yes, as a guiding principle I want to keep the church - any church - out of government. And government out of any church.

How long after the passage of the Civil Rights Act was it still canon in the Mormon church to oppose interracial marriage?

    And how about polygamy?

Wouldn't the check coming from "Fraud Guarantee" raise a red flag?

How is the government the arbiter of religious doctrine? If this person says it’s a tenet of her Christian faith to oppose interracial how is a government court to judge what and is not a religious belief? In this case the person spoke with a professional religious person, a pastor, and found that it wasn’t Christian doctrine.
Christianity is America can be used to justify anything

    People believe some awful things.

And sometimes they corroborate those terrible beliefs in their church and sometimes in their government.

It's tough to know what to do.

    Love everyone, I guess.

A just government does sometimes have to step in when religion goes awry.

When your only answer is “because my religion prohibits it” then you are usually wrong. Look, all laws are based on value systems and many of those value systems are drawn from religious beliefs. But most intelligent thinkers deep down realize that the written text of their religion is not to be taken literally and is merely a guide on how to live and act.
