The GOP has booted most of the supposed values that they held before 2018 to align behind Trump.

Where do we go after the Trump reign ends? That future is more than uncertain. But, as someone who votes in the GOP primary, how am I to know what the party stands for? They turned on a dime to snuggle into bed with Trump, rejecting the importance of global alliances, free trade, lowering the deficit, morality, etc.

In addition, the idea that the environmental quality was important, but business shouldn’t be stifled with overwhelming regulation or that immigration was valued, but should not be unregulated or unsecured, have been tossed. In their place is a profit-at-any-cost attitude that the only statistic that matters is the ever-rising stock market.

To the GOP, the increasingly obvious core value seems to be winning and holding power at the cost of quickly walking away from what they used to say that they stood for not very long ago.

I read in interesting take the other day - Politico, I think - that pointed out Mitch can't do that. The minute the impeachment vote passes, Roberts becomes in charge, not the turtle.

Trump's stance on women's reproductive rights and abortion. Straight out of the GOP handbook.

    But Trump isn't GOP.

He was the Republican candidate and that is where most of his votes came from. Sorry, but the Republicans absolutely have to own this one in the support that got him elected and more importantly in the enabling behavior by Congress. The only way Democrats are responsible is that too many of them failed to vote, but it is absolutely fair to blame President Trump on the GOP.

Also, he has taken on Republican positions in many areas, as poindexter mentioned regarding women's reproductive rights.

Even if you buy that, and it is overstated at best, that doesn't absolve the GOP of responsibility for President Trump.

The GOP didn't just enable the election of President Trump, they continue to enable all those policies you just mentioned. That they wouldn't have chosen those strategies in the past is irrelevant. They are enabling them now. They own that.

It really is interesting how a guy who claims to mostly vote for Democrats is constantly flat-out lying in defense of the Republican Party while launching attacks on "the left."

... and while no one was paying attention, Trump's bff Vlad becomes top dog in the Middle East.
