That’s what I don’t get. The votes for acquittal are easily there. Just go through the process, do a little benign grumbling, make some bland statements, and then spend 2020 crowing about how your guy is alternate-factly innocent and cruise to re-election.

Instead, Trump and the Republicans are behaving exactly how they really are, like childish bumbling fools. All of them.

 

Since it is completely in the Democrats' interest to have the impeachment process drag out as long as possible, it figures a moron like Gaetz would come up with a stunt to help that. I'll bet Susan Collins' worst nightmare is a Senate trial ending a week before the Maine primaries, and that's just one example.
PS: If they try it again, just have the Sergeant at Arms and Capitol Police mace them down.

 

Have the vote expelling them from the House 20 minutes before the impeachment vote.

It would have been easy for this moron to govern from the center - his eggshell ego and nonexistent discipline would not have allowed it.

 

If Trump had tried to govern from the center, the congressional Republicans wouldn't have allowed him to grift and steal. So he didn't.

 

I should have rephrased that, Michael.
All things being (mostly) equal, if we had a Trump with all the same vices but far, far less criminal inclination.
And the same for his cheerleaders in the House and Senate.

I don't think these people will ever know what a squandered opportunity this was.
When this is over somebody is still going have to explain what went wrong to a dumbfuck like Matt Gaetz.

Trump, the man full of excuses, won’t propose anything because he says it’s the job of Congress. Mitch, the sharp politician, refuses to propose anything without having Trump’s buy in.

 

So the GOP sit-in is over, the SCIF has been re-swept and secured, and the official Laura Cooper's testimony will begin shortly. The ONLY real effect of this stunt was to delay the leaks of her testimony until after Trump goes to bed. It's a good thing for America these guys are 10 times as stupid as they are evil, and they are plenty evil.
