Jon Stewart used to say this all of the time about Fox, but it is more true of Trump — they operate in a world of tautology.

If you publish anything bad about him, you are biased and fake news. If you are in government and say anything bad about him, you are a deep state never Trumper. If that is your world view, you can never be wrong.

Add on top of that: 1) the moral equivalency that anything is justified because no one is perfect; 2) the shameless ability to exaggerate or simply lie without ever admitting that you are wrong because you believe everything that you say and want to make yourself the hero in every sentence; and 3) the complete lack of a world view other than everything has to be filtered through the prism of yourself and we end up where we are.

At some level I understand the GOP stroking his ego because they know that’s how they can get what they want. But the utter abandonment of long held core beliefs and principles is despicable.
