He runs legally within the lane until the last step, at which point he may enter fair territory. But running outside the lane the entire way, as he did, gives him no protection at the base.

Fucked up, rule? Maybe. But they nailed it.

Replay looks like his foot hit the bag before the ball hit the glove. Shouldn’t it be 1st and 2nd no outs?

How many of us have lived this situation? Reporter nails a story, only for readers to go on and on about how wrong the story is, how incompetent the reporter is and demand a firing. The editor explains that the story was correct. Readers then say the editor needs to retire or be fired.

Replace the word reporter with umpire, replace story with the call on Turner, replace editor with Joe Torre, and you have the exact scenario playing out tonight.

No doubt Martinez's outburst was meant to do one thing: Keep the fires burning for Game 7. He backed up his team.

Why was Gurriel taking that throw with his left foot on the bag? As a right-handed first baseman, stretching from his right foot would have given him a lot more room to lean toward the fielder and make the putout, and that would keep him farther away from the baserunner, too. Poor positioning on Gurriel's part.

That’s why they draw that lane - it’s to run in.

Unsure why people are so batshit nuts on this call.

By running where he should have been running.

I really want the Nats to win this one, but their manager was ejected from a game that they were winning arguing a call that he was dead wrong on. I cannot imagine the shit show if the Astros came back and won that game and he’s fucking sitting in the clubhouse.

He was already at first before the ball. Even if the 1B caught it, turner was already safe. Bad call. Bad throw.
