Tinfoil hat time, Scherzer did not have back spasms for game five. The nationals decided to punt that game with Sanchez, and rely on Strasburg to win game six. Because, it looks really good having Scherzer go to game seven after a win. This is a whole lot better than having Sanchez trying to go for a game seven win in Houston.

But by running where he was running, he took away the first baseman’s ability to catch the ball and tag him. That’s why the box is drawn.

He also knocked off the glove if the first baseman and turned to go to second.

First baseman cannot play the ball.

Does not matter if he beat the throw.

Why would they do that? By that logic you are saying Scherzer is your best chance to win because you want him throwing a winner take all game 7. If he's your best chance to win 7 he's your best chance to win game 5. So he goes game 5 and wins but now you're expecting Strassberg to lose game 6 and you think you're in a bind. Or you're counting on him losing game 5 so you punt and expect Strassberg to win game 6 so he can go game 7. You can't both expect Stassberg to win and lose. He's either your best option to win or not. Besides, I'd rather it not go to 7. I want it over so throw my best game 5 option get the win and go with my best game 6 option.

2001? D-Backs were thin after Johnson/Schilling, but the Yankees had depth.

There's never been a World Series where the home team has failed to win a game. What a weird series this has been.

That’s what I thought. Then I looked and saw that only one player, Willie Mays Aikens in 1980, has ever homered in the Series on his birthday. He hit two.

ESPN is asking if the Turner call last night was the most controversial in WS history. Not even close. Walgreens broke the game open shortly thereafter. If it sets a record for outrage generation, that’s only because of the time we live in. 1970 Game 1. Orioles and Reds 3-3 bottom 6th. Bunt in front of plate. Catcher fails to tag runner, who fails to touch the plate. Umpire has his back to the play. Calls runner out.

Ed Armbrister, Game 3, Reds vs. Red Sox 1975. Throw to first base by catcher hits him as he's running down the line. Called safe, an eerily opposite version of last night.

They showed a clip on postgame from a recent series of the same play and there was no discussion of interference. None. Play on. Which it should have been last night. Josh Donaldson's tweet said it all.

The runner didn't interfere with first baseman, the errant throw caused the first baseman to initiate the interference and at the time of the interference the runner's right leg was in foul territory. There was no intent to interfere and the runner's path to the base when he was in the basepath had nothing to do with the inability to make a throw that caused the first baseman to awkwardly attempt to field the ball.
