It was a joke about how shitty an ump Hunter is.

1948 Series, Bob Feller clearly picks a runner off second base late in Game 1. Ump blows call, calls runner safe, runner then scores on a base hit, Braves win 1-0.

ESPN, as usual, acts as if the world did not exist before 1979.

If LeBron had tweeted last night that the call was the greatest injustice since his fellow Cleveland icon in 1948, that would have made ESPN.

Tonight is the 5th elimination game for the Nats this post-season.
Strasburg won 2 of the elimination games and started the third. Scherzer won the other.

I figure Scherzer is good for 5 tonight, Sanchez then Corbin

I’d rather throw a lesser pitcher against Cole and take my chances with Justin and Zack.

My concern regarding Scherzer's injury is that he could dig the Nationals a hole if he tries to work through it and fails.

That said, it is clear why things were far from over even after the Astros won Game 5. The Nationals had the better of the Game 6 pitching match-up and the same is true for Game 7.

I don't have a horse in this race, but if the Nats win so soon after the Caps won two years ago, Washington is gonna be drunk on championships, which is pretty damn cool. Also be nice to see long-suffering Expos fans in Montreal finally see a title. They didn't all jump ship right?

Or as they like to say, the most controversial call in the ESPN era? But as noted, Denkinger, Jackson, Feller, and I'll throw in 1952, when Art Pasarella blew a call in Game 5.

You want to watch an automated chess match where one computer plays another? Or a human match? Umpires are human, they make mistakes, just like athletes and managers/coaches, etc. Yeah Denkinger's call stinks (as did last night's) but that's part of the human element.

That analogy is not accurate. The umpires aren't competitors.

The players and managers/coaches are the competitors and they give us the human element. The umpires exist to interpret and enforce the rules, not compete in the game. The most important factor is fairness, which means getting the calls right as much as possible.

Fun fact about last night: Ovechkin scored the game winner in OT in Toronto approximately 30 seconds after Soto gave the Nats the lead with that homer.
