Horse racing? Since "hands" are a measurement of height and so many other phrases come from the ponies.

    yes

EDIT: The phrase referred to a jockey who won a race without whipping his horse or pulling on the reins.

Who are the only two players to win League Championship Series MVP on a losing team? It's one in each league.

It's not exactly obscure trivia, but the phrase "upset" also originated with horse racing when a horse named Upset beat Man 'O War in 1919.

I know/think one is Mike Scott in 1986. I just remember it because of a joke that Buckner should have been the series mvp tied with Scott having come up with the Mets.

The other is Fred Lynn with the Angels in 1982. I remember that ALCS all too well.

Does Fred Lynn hold the MLB record for odd firsts? First rookie MVP, first grandslam in the all star game, first lcs mvp from a losing team.

I was wrong there were actually three. Scott, Lynn and Jeffrey Leonard with the Giants in 1987

That mention of Leonard alone was worth reading about the career of Penitentiary Face.
