As much as they feud against each other (and internet feuds are dumb), how true is it that Deadspin was kind of the early Barstool?

Before everything about every quasi-celebrity got put on social media in some capacity, Deadspin brought gossipy stories about sports media folks to light in a similar way to how people consume celebrity culture. Then it seemed to have more stuff like 'hey, remember this weird thing? Wasn't it weird?' Before a lot of the other quirky blogs populated. It has an OG internet cred like ebaumsworld.

Deadspin classics I remember reading on there:
Elijah Dukes 'you dead, dawg' voicemail
    Pat O' Brien voicemail
    Bruce Pearl partying pics
    "Who wants to sex Mutumbo?"
Carl Monday busting a guy jerking it to porn in a public library
    You're with me leather

Carl Monday and You're With Me, Leather were two of the best things I ever saw on the internet.

Who did it better, Deadspinners or Jello Biafra?

Deadspin and the limits of ‘sticking to sport’

As the union representing Deadspin employees put it on Wednesday: "'Stick to sports' is and always has been a thinly veiled euphemism for ‘don’t speak truth to power’.”

And unchecked, that power inflicts itself on sport in all sorts of nefarious ways. ‘Stick to sport’ is why the World Cup is going to Qatar. It’s why your club’s owner is a reclusive billionaire who hasn’t been seen at your stadium in years. It’s why black athletes are still getting racially abused while doing their jobs, why Colin Kaepernick still doesn’t have an NFL team, why your local council can’t afford to fund grassroots sporting facilities, why a sexual abuse scandal in US gymnastics was allowed to carry on for years. These are the stories that sport’s established powerbrokers – a nexus of successful teams, governing bodies and the investors and sponsors who fund both – would rather you weren’t told.

The media can tell these stories, but only if the people who own the media let them.

So the person in charge took a two-year old freelancer's post, changed the time stamp, and threw it on the page as new material. What a slimeball.

Guy named Bill Bradley wrote something for Deadspin years ago. It was posted yesterday with the time stamp changed to show it was current material.

They also updated Diana Moskovitz’s “transactions” post to have a date of Oct. 1, while leaving the headline that said “Nov. 1.”
