Jack Ryan Season 2. Likes the first one, flaws and all.

Second season seemed rushed and sloppy. I’m all for suspension of disbelief. But too many silly things. Ryan wearing bright tan Dockers in a night raid? Not pulling his gun in a rooftop chase scene until the bad guy jumps in the water? Greer not putting a bullet in the bad guy’s head when he escaped?

And the ending seemed tacked on.
    Kinda entertaining but annoyed overall.

It's not just suspension of disbelief. If my biggest concern was what Jack Ryan was wearing or why he didn't pull a gun, I would have been happy. Instead, the whole season was a useless dramatic mess.

What did you think of Nanette?

At any point in season 2 is it referenced that Ryan goes through training? That was the biggest flaw I saw in season 1, where an analyst with no field training is put in a room with a terrorist. He observed data, not people. Big difference.

Thank you for posting this. I didn't realize Season 2 had dropped yet.

I'm watching Atypical with my wife and daughter. We're a few episodes into the third season. For those who haven't heard of it, the show is about a teenager with autism and his family. It has some funny moments, though honestly I wouldn't watch it own my own. They like it and I don't mind it, so it is something to do together.

We also watched the first season of The Kominsky Method, so that is next on the list. I doubt we will get that one in before Disney+ has its debut next week. I'm planning to binge The Mandalorian as soon as I get a chance, so I'll probably post about that here or on the geek thread, then dig into some of the old stuff I haven't seen in years that Disney is pulling out of the archive.

  6. Season 1 of Ray Donovan is on Prime.
    Two episodes in. It's Ok.

That's a hard show to binge - particularly when he's around his family. Finale of s2 of Mayans MC was pretty good. They've done a good job of weaving in Sons of Anarchy but giving plenty of room for Mayans to stand on its own two legs. My one beef about the finale - a particular character gets "patched in" - and they give him his patches - but don't show him sewing them on (perfectly as it appeared). Would have been a funny scene. I imagine sewing heavy patches on leather is not easy.

I don't think writing it as "a particular character" avoids the spoiler there because there is only one Mayan prospect on the show. I don't think it's a big deal, but it is a spoiler. I have the episode on the DVR and will be watching it tonight.

I don't think they actually showed characters sewing on the patches on Sons of Anarchy, but they never had a prospect play such a large role. I also like how they wove the two shows together. I think you could understand most of what is going on in Mayans even if you hadn't watched Sons. Of course, you wouldn't appreciate things like Chibs showing up and the respectful references to Jax Teller wouldn't make sense, but the overall story stands on its own. Mayans isn't bad, but it isn't quite as good as its predecessor. It does have the same habit of relatively smart characters doing really stupid things.

Gemma was the secret sauce of Sons. Don't know if they can turn Sara Bolger's character into that - manipulating people to act against their own interests.

How anything spun out from 'Sons of Anarchy' can provide any satisfaction in its story is stunning.

    Anybody else finish The Deuce?

    That was one weird ending.

EPIX is free on Comcast for a couple weeks. Enjoying Deep State - I like Graves and Berlin Station in the past if you're interested in checking them out.
