    They covered his name because whoever it was, Trump was going to attack him. If it was, say, Mitt Romney, he has resources to defend himself. Some sort of mid-level bureaucrat hasn't got PR advice and lawyers on retainer. Whistleblower laws were passed to prevent blowback by vindictive bosses, and Trump is that to the max.

    If there was a political side to it, that is a separate issue, which should be discussed on its own merits. The point is that the whistleblower laws were passed for good reason, and those reasons are on full display here.
