    Let's say I own a business (equity holder). And let's say I believe so much in that business, or I want to help it grow or meet a capital need of some sort, so I lend money to the business (debt holder). And let's say at the same time, to be prudent, I also I take out an insurance policy where I pay a premium, and in case things don't work out for the business as I am hoping, the insurance will pay me back all or something on that debt if the business has to default on the loan I made (credit default swaps).

    That is exactly what she described. There is nothing in and of itself that is insidious about an entity that puts itself in a situation like that.
