It would only have to tip the scale a small bit to have an outsized effect on the election, because of how close 2016 was.

They’ve given up asking questions. All the Republicans are rambling maniacs

In fairness, Trey Gowdy *was* human scum during the Benghazi hearings.

Stefanek lists how serious the Republicans are about election security. Yet Moscow Mitch won't bring the bill to the Senate floor.

I'm beginning to find, this week, that I'm more demoralized than ever through the last three days of public hearings. It's so obvious what Trump did, that he extorted a foreign country in exchange for making up an investigation into a political rival, withholding taxpayer-funded aid to ward off Russia, which, once upon a time, was the Evil Empire, according to St. Reagan.
And yet the republicans (lowercase on purpose) just rant, rave, yell and crow about the identity of the whistleblower, etc., and remain so utterly and completely partisan about the entire process. These are supposed to be elected officials at the highest level of American democracy, and they can't at all have an open mind about anything? Not one of them? I know Trump will never be removed because of this, but it is so disheartening that every fucking shitty thing this president does - all of it, every last piece of any terrible, immoral, despicable thing that every republican (lowercase intended) would rail against in any other three-year span of history - none of it does anything to sway them beyond a very occasional meek wave of timid and apathetic "concern."
And that's what kills me. THIS is the president they've decided to tie themselves to. The guy so many of they themselves lampooned when he announced his candidacy and ran in the primary. This guy, this horrible man of not one principle, is who they will now fight to the death of their reputations for.
    Why?
Because of the "base"? For Supreme Court justices they'd get anyway?
It's so shortsighted, playing for a 40 percent base that ultimately will ALWAYS vote your way no matter what. Go ahead, keep carrying the water for Trump. Hopefully, a significant number of independents will remember forever, and perhaps losing a few presidential elections for a few decades in a row will eventually make them wise.
