Nope, Roberts is a Republican. Full-stop. And he’s being handed on a silver platter the last opportunity the party has to protect itself from its existential crisis brought about by the demographic wave crashing into it in the coming decade.

The GOP is all but non existent in California. Roberts will make sure that fate doesn’t befall his country club brethren nationwide.

A shifting political ideology will weaken its influence, but the party would survive.

Isn't Orange Country and environs extremely red?

 

Nope.
There are no GOP Congressmembers from OC. All 7 are Democratic. There are no GOP statewide office holders either.

 

Orange County traditionally was but these last midterms killed that.

If you look south of Stockton/Modesto to the Grape Vine (and areas east) that's where the last bastion of Republicanism is strong and well (minus batshit crazy counties near the Oregon border). Kevin McCarthy is from Bako and Nunes is from Fresno and that's not going to change short of the Central Valley finally moving to Texas like the hard-core, Tea Party conservatives there keeps threatening.
