Have people really "Melted down" over this?

When I was in high school, I fell for the "No soap, radio" joke (No surprise to some of you, I'm sure). Is that kind of the idea with these things? When we react to them, the joke's on us?

    How does that work?

You're familiar with the "No soap, radio" joke, right?

    No soap radio - Wikipedia

Last year, one friend shared some false thing about Hillary. I called him out on it. His response was that it was a joke. I didn't see what the joke was and called him a liar. He told me to go back to my safe space. Again, I said, I didn't see what the joke was. Then I realized, it was my reaction to it that was the joke. I'm not sure how that works or what the logic of it is, but the whole idea was he knew what he posted was false and the whole point was just to get a reaction out of the libs.

Can somebody explain the logic in that?

They are losers in life in one way or another and this gives them a feeling of superiority over the people they are jealous of.
