If given the choice between Columbia, Fayetteville and Oxford....
    Oxford?

It is entirely possible Luke was let go just because his three-year record was going in the wrong direction -- 6-6, 5-7, 4-8?

If prez and AD are newly onboard, that's probably a big part of the answer. New ADs can't wait to make changes and bring their own people in. The guy was a dead man coaching all year and may not have realized it. It is truly amazing how much money is donated -- with at least a decent tax deduction attached -- to the allegedly educational mission of whacking football coaches.

That's definitely a part of it. But, again, look at what he was up against. A mid-level SEC program whose ceiling is 10 wins in all but the very very best of seasons, and he was dealing with sanctions and the resultant talent drain as players transfer to have something to play for. The guy who could have been his starting quarterback this season was starting for Michigan, and one of the top receivers is starting for Florida. Two other excellent receivers are starting in the NFL.
His most experienced QB played in four games last season and got hurt early in this one. Despite all that, they were generally competitive. Next year is the year when they should really begin to emerge from a bad era with all of those young players. He'd earned the chance to try and get them there.

He was also a stop gap hire after the Hugh Freeze fiasco.

If you mean from a quality of life standpoint, the choice is NW Arkansas and it’s not close.

If you mean from a coaching success standpoint, it’s Columbia because UA, AU and LSU are in the other division.

Without a doubt. The worst part is that Luke probably didn't realize that. Like Batman said he is forever loyal to that program and wanted to clean it up and make it competitive in as legitimate a way as possible. But there's a faction of Ole Miss fans that were happier with what Freeze did, cheating be damned...they just wanted to be part of the conversation week to week and whatever it took to get those big wins over Alabama.

Ole Miss football has worst season attendance for home games since 2001

Butts in seats. Which makes me think Ole Miss is going to try to make some noise with their hire. They can't hire someone they hope wins enough to create some buzz. A Norvell or Fickell doesn't move the needle that much does it? They need a guy with the personality of Gruden, the defense of Clemson and the offense of Sean McVay.

You think Leinart and Bush are on Fox's pre-game because they "didn't win" Heismans and national titles according to the NCAA?

If you’re white and have a lot of money, NW Arkansas is a gem.
