Word is USC might announce a new defensive coordinator today, possibly Willie McGinest.

Chris Claiborne might coach the linebackers if he gets his wishes.

Word is he did; not sure the details, if there actually are any.

Matt has flowing up the coaching ranks, probably too quickly.

It’s amazing how bad fans are at coaching searches, and how often they fuck things up by demanding a “big name” or the ultra flashy G5 coach of the week.

K-State fans were livid last year at the hiring of Chris Klieman. Wanted Seth Littrell from N.Texas. K-State’s AD was the NDSU AD and everyone was furious that he just hired his buddy, a small-town clown who’d accomplished the easy task of doing well in the middle school ranks but would never be able to hack it in the big varsity league where they play real football.

12 months later... Littrell stayed at North Texas, had an average season and I haven’t seen him mentioned as a candidate for any jobs. (I haven’t looked very hard, fwiw.) and Klieman, well, turns out he can coach football, FCS, FBS, whatever. Dude can coach, and is a very good fit for K-State in terms of personality. Everyone was worried he couldn’t recruit, but, what, he’s going to recruit worse than Snyder did the last decade? That’d be almost impossible.

Fans are stupid. All of us.

Always thought the coaches to go after is the "hot coach" who stuck around but has had an off-year or two. I think part of the problem with getting a name HC from another school is the buyouts and contracts are getting ridiculous. If you've got a program running, you are the highest paid public employee in the state and four years left on your deal - why go somewhere else where you have to start over? A big boy job is one thing, but a mid-tier P5?

I understand, somewhat, the temptation to cash in on being the hot commodity G5 coach who takes that 2nd/3d tier P5 job for the P5 paycheck. It's money in hand. That said, it also is a near guarantee that he'll be the next in a long chain of coaches who have taken that job and remained in the bottom half of that conference. He'll have three, four, five years of a P5 check and then he'll get run, just like the guy before him.

    SMH.

When Freeze came aboard Ole Miss, was it with the understanding that they would do "what was required" to get better talent in Oxford?

Strong rumors out that Ole Miss is hiring Kiffin.
