Yeah .... no. Our biggest and most important job is revenge and punishment -- making the fuckers pay so that nobody ever tries this again. Heads on pikes. Starting with the fat fuck at the top -- he has to go to prison and probably to the gallows.

    Worked for Peter the Great.

Reminder that the existence of Nazi death camps once were called "Russian propaganda."

I get the anger. I'm angry too.

But if the Democrats gain control of the House, Senate and White House, the first task should be passing a series of laws that close every loophole that Mitch McConnell and his ilk have callously exploited in the last decade. What the Republicans did was show just how fragile our system is, and how much of it is based on trusting the people in power to have some decency and decorum.

Call it the Government Accountability and Functionality Act. In its ideal form, it would provide a legal framework that neutralizes the Wild West dark-money spending made possible post-Citizens United. But if that can't be done, laws can be enacted to set limits in place for filling vacant positions throughout the federal government, from the IRS and FBI to the Supreme Court -- e.g. if a sitting justice dies or retires, a nominee must be put forth by the President within 30 days and the Senate confirmation hearing must begin no later than 45 days after that, with the entire process concluding no later than 90 days of the previous justice's death or voluntary departure. Also, every bill passed by the House must be given a Senate hearing and a vote within a set time -- again, 30 days. (Limits can be placed on the number of bills passed to ensure the privilege is not abused.) On the executive side, every meeting and phone call with a foreign leader or official must be recorded, immediately transcribed by a non-partisan official from outside of the Executive Branch and placed into the National Archives. There are myriad other aspects that can be curbed with these laws (e.g. preventing the President from issuing pardons to anyone whose crimes involved corruption regarding federal, state or local governments). The Democrats have to avoid the trap of thinking, "Wow, look what we can do when we're back in power!" and focus on failsafes that prevent demagogues and corrupt officials from doing damage, no matter which party they represent.

To the malfeasance and abuse of power, we must say, "Never again," and enact forward-thinking safeguards to prevent this now and forever.

Bring back the Fairness Doctrine or some sort of equal time laws, too for broadcasters. Hannity and Rush can rant and rave for 50 minutes, and the last 10 minutes can belong to the other side to call out their bullshit. And I’m fine with liberal broadcasters having the same thing.

You’d be seeing a lot less dumb conspiracy theory shit if you know that the next person is totally going to call you out on it.

    Or rubles from Firtash

There is no point in this crap, and as much as I'd like to watch, I can't. At 5 p.m., a time check was called, and there was still 2 hours to go. This is 6 hours of grandstanding by both sides to say they spoke from the floor on impeachment day.
In Supreme Court hearings, each side is given 30 minutes. When your time is up, you are cut off. This should have been the same.
