Just never knew nostalgia to be such a bad thing. I mean, you make your living covering an industry that in many ways thrives on nostalgia.

I think you're completely wrong. Do I enjoy the nostalgia component? Yes. Am I addicted to nostalgia? That would imply people who like these movies never go see anything new. I hardly think that's the case. But without the nostalgia factor, would there be a reason to go see Episode IX -- of just about anything -- otherwise? Is anyone throwing down $50 to lug their family to a theater to make their Star Wars debut at the Rise of Skywalker?

There was never any indication Palpy had the slightest interest in a social life or procreating with anyone, so who really gives a fuck who his son was?

It might have made sense if Palpy's son was Moff Jefjerrod, the snooty Imperial bureaucrat who for some unknown reason is allowed to mouth off (momentarily) to Darth Vader in ANH, but there's no indication he's anybody anybody had ever heard of before.

Damn. I had looked on IMDB earlier looking for something else and didn't make the connection.

[nerdpost] Wasn't Moff Jerjerrod was the commander of Death Star II in ROTJ? [/nerdpost]

As stated before, the lack of an overall vision from the start of the trilogy definitely was a problem. Didn’t keep me from enjoying it, but it apparent.

I’ve never understood the vitriol for TLJ. I liked what Johnson did with it. And JJ clearly wanted to please everyone. Kind of his thing.

Once I accepted the Emperor thing for what it was, I had no idea problem enjoying the ride.

I’m sure this isn’t the story originally planned. The snippet of Luke training Leia before she vowed not to lift the blade was there for a reason. This was going to be a big Leia storyline before Fisher died. That considered, I’m surprised it turned out as well as it did, on the fly.

It’s a few years until the next trilogy that will be a total departure from these characters (I assume). They’d be wise to have the storyline set for all three before it begins shooting.

One thing I didn’t like was the kiss. Seemed super forced and out of place. The scene would have been better if it was left implied.

I'm one fan, and apparently one of the few, who thinks the Last Jedi is one of the best overall Star Wars movies. I don't think they necessarily tried to undo it with this one, although I can see people thinking that, but regardless none of the three really fit together that great. I agree, this was going to be a Leia event and I think it was always planned to be that way. So the combination of Fisher's death plus the fan backlash of TLJ is how we ended up with this. It was entertaining, but I think it left much to be desired.

One thing that was constant throughout the whole new trilogy that they did well was the Rey-Ren thing. It continued in this one, but I don't know about the conclusion. Didn't mind the kiss tons, although with all their tension maybe it was cliche, but just don't know overall how I feel about how they wrapped it up. Another something to sit on for a bit.

I’ll definitely see it again with the theater experience. And later on Disney+

I think TLJ is a very good film. Well crafted. And it still “feels” like a Star Wars flick. Which is why I’ll never understand the backlash. Who are the “real” people who hate it? And why? I know they exist from social media. I’ve never met them.

The anti-TLJ movement always seemed somewhat orchestrated to me.

JJ did take one of the best things from it, the Rey-Kylo Force interconnection, and make it a huge part of the new one. That worked well.

I've met Star Wars fans who hated The Last Jedi. There was nothing orchestrated about it. They just hated the story.

I have a brother-in-law that loathed it. He would claim to be a hard core fan, too. I am wondering what he will think about this one. My guess is he'll love it. Seems to be where it's going with the responses.

Yep. I’m sure they’re out there, as both of you have verified. I definitely would’ve chopped 20 or so minutes out of TLJ for pacing (same with TROS).

And I understand people like different things. No problem with that. It’s the from-the-gut rage folks I don’t get. The “ruined my childhood” types.

I’m a big fan. But that’s the eye roll stuff for me. I suppose that’s a personality type for a die-hard fan if anything.

Yeah, but he was still a mid level
bureaucrat; it made no sense he was being allowed to mouth off to the emperor's right hand hitman.

Plus, it's pretty much accepted now (I guess) that Palpatine "created" Anakin through immaculate conception with Shmi Skywalker, which
makes Palpy Kylo Ren's (aka Ben Solo's) great grandfather, so it makes Kylo and Rey first cousins once removed, so once again the kiss gets into icky-poo near-incestuous territory they had to explain away 35 years when they decided to make Luke and Leia siblings.

Like Palpatine, the implied incest a catcall-back to the original trilogy? I didn’t consider the immaculate conception angle. I just thought their connection was established and the kiss was unnecessary and forced.
